Brief History of San Roque Parish (Formerly RISEN CHRIST PARISH)
The Tungawan movement began in a humble and very simple way in January of 1983, during the creation of Sto. Niño Parish in R.T.Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay [formerly Zamboanga del Sur]. Later on, it became sub-parish of Sto. Niño R.T. Lim. On the 16th of August in 1995, Fr. Pablito “toto” Desoasido, CMF was installed as the first parish priest in the Parish. In the same year, the construction of the parish, convent, and formation center started with the help of Fr. Carlos “Kaloy” Rivas, CMF, the parish priest in Sto. Niño at that time. The parish name Risen Christ was created and accepted by Bishop Federico O. Escaler, D.D. of the Prelature of Ipil [now Diocese of Ipil].
