A week filled with hope and prayer

Quezon City, Philippines. From January 17 to 19, 2025, the Institute for Consecrated Life in Asia (ICLA) held its annual Religious Life Week, featuring a three-day series of conferences centered on the theme: “Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer” (Romans 12:12): Challenges and Opportunities to Consecrated Life Today.

The event brought together three distinguished theologians and bishops who shared their profound insights on the theme. On the first day, Sr. Mary Frohlich, RSCJ, explored the topic “Rejoicing in Hope,” offering reflections on fostering joy and trust in God’s promises. The second day featured Most Rev. Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara, D.D., who provided thought-provoking insights on “Enduring in Affliction,” emphasizing resilience and faith amid trials. Concluding the series on the third day, Most Rev. Bishop Raul Dael, D.D., shared his reflections and personal experiences on “Persevering in Prayer,” inspiring participants, through his experiences and learnings, to deepen their commitment to a life of prayer.

In his welcome address, Fr. Salvador Agualada, CMF, provided an insightful overview of the conference series, underscoring the core of Saint Paul’s exhortation and its profound relevance to consecrated life today. He highlighted three essential dimensions of the theme: cultivating vibrant hope amid uncertainty, embracing suffering with grace and resilience, and nurturing a prayer life that sustains the mission of religious communities.

The event concluded with a solemn celebration of the Eucharist, presided over by Most Reverend Bishop Raul Dael, D.D., in honor of the Feast of the Sto. Niño, bringing the gathering to a prayerful and joyous close.
