“Lord, conquer my fears with faith and trust in you.”
On the morning of March 20, 2000, Fr. Rhoel along with several teachers and students of
Claret School of Tumahubong and the neighboring elementary school were abducted
by extremist group Abu Sayaff and brought them into their camp in Mount Punoh Muhadji.
He was held captive and tortured for 44 days and on May 3, 2000, he died as a martyr.
Fr. Rhoel was a good shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep.
He stayed and ministered to his sheep and did not run away to save himself.
He died for the faith and peace.
